We are pleased to announce the upcoming International Workshop on The Notion of the Self in Seneca’s Writings, sponsored by the Limud Bechevruta program at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the ERC project Romana – The Roman Turn Among Jews, Greek Pagans, and Christians.

 

Time: June 25, 11:00-12:30 (GMT 3).

 

Program:

The workshop will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online) and will feature contributions from:

10:45 – Reception of participants.

11:00 – Elisha Hochman (Hebrew University): Seneca’s Attitude toward Epicurus and his (Un)explicit Reliance on Epicureanism.

11:30 – Catharine Edwards (Birbeck College, University of London): The Desire for a Better Self: Seneca on Wanting to Be Good (Letter 80).

 

12:00 – Sharon Weisser (Tel Aviv University): Grief and Pre-Passion in Seneca.

 

12:30 – Closing Remarks.
