<li style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit"><span style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit">to devote their time to research and publication in the relevant scientific venues;</span></li>
<li style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit"><span style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit">to organize a seminar series and a conference (to be funded by HCMH), focusing on one or several themes in Mediterranean history according to her/his research interests and in consultation with the HCMH’s directors;</span></li>
<li style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit"><span style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit">to be present on the Haifa campus and take an active role in the academic life of HCMH: attend all seminars and lectures, present their research in various forums, meet informally with advanced students, etc.</span></li>
</ol>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 20px;padding: 0px;line-height: inherit;font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;font-size: 17px;text-align: start"><span style="font-variant: inherit;line-height: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 17px;font-style: inherit">The fellowship offers an annual stipend of 102,000 NIS (currently ~33,000 USD), for twelve months. It is advisable but not obligatory to obtain the sponsorship of a faculty member in the University of Haifa, with whom the candidate wishes to collaborate.</span></p>

Teaching is compensated separately by the relevant departments and is taxable.</span></p>

The fellow will receive a monthly stipend of approximately 11,000 NIS. Additional funding for travel for academic meetings will be available following approval. Preferably, the fellow will spend much of the academic year in Jerusalem, alongside other project members;&nbsp;<strong>however, there is room for flexibility pending on the project&#8217;s needs.</strong>&nbsp;Knowledge of Hebrew is not required.</font></span></p>

He spent three months here in 2020-2021 as a fellow at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies in a research project called <strong>Triangulating Towards Socrates</strong>, during which time he played an instrumental role in creating both the Xenophon and the Socrates books series at de Gruyter Brill. He was a dear friend to more people than we can know, and is deeply missed by all.</span></p>

He is a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), and a Member of Academia Europaea (MAE). He is well known for his groundbreaking work on ancient Greek emotions, particularly shame/respect (<em>aidōs</em>), honour, and their moral psychology. He has published extensively on Homer, tragedy, Greek society and ethics, and cognitive approaches to Classics.</span></p>
